Ophelie Dzemael

Cursed Knight of Ishgard

Welcome to the character biography of Ophelie Dzemael, RP character on the Mateus server of Final Fantasy XIV. Within these pages you will find all all the information you may wish to know about this poor, cursed soul.

Background

Ophelie Dzemael was born into one of the four Great Houses of Ishgard's nobility. As one might expect her early life was privileged, filled with the trappings of her noble birth. When she came of age she joined the knighthood of the Holy See and trained as a Dragoon, intending to do her part and fight in the Dragonsong war. Her family, while content with her becoming a knight, felt she would to better to play at being a warrior instead of actually fighting in the war.Resisting her families objections to her choices, Ophelie developed a reputation as something of a black sheep. Her actions were tolerated at best, but her standing in the family fell considerably; a fact that she had little trouble with. Nobility had never suited Ophelie very well. She had always been a bit too outspoken, a little too "crude," and her opinions on the way the nobility treated those they felt to be below them was tantamount to heresy. Among her fellow soldiers, however, she was not only respected but well liked by those who served under her.One day whilst carousing with her men in the Brume, word was sent to Ophelie of a mission that she and he group were being sent on. They were not being sent to hunt marauding Dravanians, however, but something darker. When her superiors briefed her on her task, she was told that her mission was to clear out a pocket of voidsent that had turned up in the further reaches of Northern Coerthas. Dutifully, she and her contingent of soldiers set out to accomplish their mission, but the information on their targets had been inaccurate. Far more fiends were present than they had been told about and the battle that ensued was brutal. At the end, only two remained, Ophelie and a powerful voidsent. As the battle came to its close, Ophelie had managed to defeat the beast, but not before it managed to lay a powerful curse upon her.Ophelie had no knowledge of this hex at the time and returned to the city. It seemed strange to her that despite the injuries she had received in the long battle, her wounds did not pain her. In fact, by the time she had made it back to the city, she felt as though she had suffered no injuries at all. Nevertheless, she went to visit the chirurgeon's to have her condition checked. The medics there expressed a strong disbelief in her story of what had occurred as Ophelie didn't have so much as a scratch on her. The chirurgeons also noted several other oddities about her in their examination. Her complexion had paled to a ghostly pallor, the color of her eyes had shifted from the pale sea blue they had once been to a deep crimson, and several of her teeth had lengthened and grown sharp as needles. In typical Ishgardian fashion, Ophelie was immediately branded a heretic and an abomination. The chirurgeons called for the Temple Knights to capture and execute her but Ophelie wasn't stupid and knew when she had worn out her welcome. She evaded her pursuers and fled the city. That was one hundred and sixteen years ago.

IC / OOC Stats

Age: 138 (appears to be in her early Twenties)
Sex: Female
Race: Duskwight Elezen
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 165 lbs.
Hair: Black
Eyes: Crimson
Orientation: Bisexual
Marital Status: Married to Yuki Kahkol
Place of Residence: Empyreum, Ward 21, Plot 15
Personality:
For most of her youth, Ophelie was crass, loud-mouthed, opinionated and very outspoken. Despite being of noble birth, she was never been very "noble" in her mannerisms and had always been more comfortable in a seedy tavern working her way to the bottom of her 6th tankard of ale than in any ballroom. She cussed like a sailor, joined any tavern brawl with a smile on her face and nobody who knew her would ever have describer her as a "proper lady." But the seemingly endless passage of years have taken their toll on her, and much of the fire of her youth has burned down. As age and wisdom have replaced youth and exuberance, she is now more often than not soft-spoken and matronly. While she can still be somewhat acerbic when the need arises, she tends to look past most things that would once have sparked her ire. The "curse" has also taken its due and as such it is not terribly uncommon to find her in a deep depression, seemingly drained of the life and vibrancy she once displayed.
OOC:
Ophelie thinks that is the unfortunate victim of the death curse of a powerful voidsent fiend. This is not the case, however. Her "curse" stems from a different source, but due to that belief she has spent the better part of the last century seeking a means to cure herself of this condition by looking in the wrong places. The truth is that the beast she fought and that was responsible for her being what she is now was not a voidsent at all, but a very rare and very powerful being of which little is known. Due to her believing that she was the victim of a voidsent, however, she has developed a deep-seeded hatred of such entities and has devoted the whole of her martial prowess to killing as many as she can.
